Lower Cape Pride aims to increase LGBTQ+ acceptance through educating, empowering, and mobilizing towards a more inclusive, welcoming, and diverse local community.
Our Goals:
Celebrate the rich intergenerational histories and voices within Cape Cod’s LGBTQ+ communities
Cultivate social acceptance so that all members of our community can live safely and openly
Amplify visibility and public support to make the lower Cape safer, more inclusive, and welcoming to all
Educate and engage our community to better understand the diversity of our friends, family members, and neighbors
Empower allies to become advocates for the LGBTQ+ community
Our Story:
Lower Cape Pride began with a spark of inspiration from Joan and Rick Francolini. They had witnessed the transformative impact of small-town Pride celebrations in Maine - events that brought visibility, joy, and solidarity to the queer community - including their daughter and future son-in-law. From that experience, it became clear that the Lower Cape needed its own movement—not only to extend support beyond Provincetown but also to foster a broader sense of belonging and acceptance right here in our own community.
What started as a passionate duo has blossomed into a dynamic team of over 50 LGBTQ+ members and allies, each committed to driving this mission forward.
