Curated by writer and activist Kristin Knowles and in the spirit of WCAI’s The Moth, this story slam features eight storytellers from across generations sharing true, personal stories that speak to identity, resilience, love, and the power of being seen. Each story is a reminder that our lived experiences matter, and that sharing them can create powerful ripples of connection and understanding.
Katie Castagno’s “Our Queer Elders” uses storytelling and original song to celebrate and elevate the lives of people who have queered social and gender norms throughout history. At a time when queer history and voices are increasingly erased, “Our Queer Elders” is both informative and cheeky, whether it’s an account of Rachel Carson’s whirlwind romance with Dorothy Freeman, a sweet love song about Mary Oliver, or an imagining of the night Amelia Earhart and Eleanor Roosevelt took a joyride after dinner in 1933.
This intergenerational panel brings together LGBTQ+ voices from across Cape Cod to share personal stories of identity, resilience, and community. From coming out and activism to allyship and acceptance, panelists Finn Allen, Anna Bennett, Bradley Forcier, and Kriss Matheney offer powerful reflections on what it means to live authentically and support one another.
Moderated by Rick Koonce, host of Profiles in LGBTQ+ Courage, this conversation celebrates the strength found in solidarity.
